Each year, more automobiles and drivers hit the roads. With the increasing number of vehicles on the road, accidents can happen. Car insurance can be the difference between a small setback and a major hassle. So how can you find out what type of car insurance you need and how much to purchase? Insurance requirements vary by state/province, but usually include the following: Liability: Liability pays for the expenses you are responsible for in a car accident, including property damage and injury. It also covers your legal fees if you are sued. Recommended, higher levels of insurance can be purchased that take care of more events than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal Injury Protection: Personal injury insurance is mandated in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost earnings, service replacement and funeral expenses. The minimum amount of this insurance is usually set by the state. Medical Payments: This type of coverage can be purchased in states that are not considered no-fault and will pay no matter who is responsible for the accident. This insurance will pay for an insured person's necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from a crash. Collision: This pays for damages to your vehicle caused by an accident. Comprehensive: This type of insurance covers any damages not caused by a collision. This may include fire and wind damage, vandalism, and robbery. Uninsured Motorist: This pays for repair and replacement costs when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by a driver who does not have insurance. Under-Insured Motorist: Many drivers have liability insurance that can't pay for all the expenses they are supposed to take care of. Under-insured motorist coverage covers you from those drivers. Emergency road service, car rental, and other types of coverage can also be purchased. State Farm Clermont
